We describe a transitional cell carcinoma arising from the renal pelvis of a ferret (Mustela putorius furo). This is the first descriptive report of a primary renal tumor in this species. It is unusual in that it completely replaced the kidney. The possibility of the tumor arising from a blind-ending ureter in a case of renal agenesis was entertained. Also interesting is that the first primary renal tumor described in this species, is a neoplasm considered uncommon in most species.
